"playing in gravity"

CXXXVIII

...amid the joe pye weed and the brilliant st john's wort that turned into a "bonsai" tree and lived for years while the garden changed around it - bloom the water iris - i'm thinking that if i have remembered my latin correctly... that iris is both plural and singular - maybe even, "at the same time..."

small overgrown welcome

day 135

spring has sprung into a repetitive knife plunge of summer 90's - having to dodge the attack means falling behind on the work

falling behind on the work means that ma nature takes a step forward

maybe healing itself from the direct torture of humankind

maybe not

iris bud silt

CXXXII

it's a jungle out there

thanks to the early summer in march. and april. and may for that matter - the annual pond cleaning took place in what seemed like a rain forest instead of a barren desert of "hurry up!"

first the dead leaves and maple seeds are skimmed - then comes the dredging of the silt

then the reviving of the water pumps - gotta keep that water moving or there'll be mosquitoes to pay

hmmmm.... this might be a good spot for tomatoes next year.....

just sayin'

not much peace

day 131

it's been duly noted that when my flow gets interrupted - my many lives stall alongside the process - or lack thereof

my plans of solitude and reflection - my scheduled recharge, if you will, can take a major tumble when, during the beginning stages of some zen weeding in the garden, the neighbor pulls out his big ass chainsaw and proceeds to push the decibel level to near sonic boom

that was yesterday - mid seventies and dry

ugh.

six tomato plants

day 130

last saturday at the evanston farmers market - i bought 6 tomato plants

this is them

also three basil plants

i planted the tomatoes low this year - i heard that it promotes more root growth - that is to say that I put them further into the ground(up the stem) than i normally would have

i like this experiment         i'll keep you posted

eighteen years later

CXXV

eighteen years ago today we closed on this - our house...

- it was dark brown
- it's 90 years old this year
- we're the second family to own it
- a mayor of libertyville lived here
- as far as i can tell there are two additions to the original
- i still haven't explored every nook and cranny of it, yet

...strange little place - our house

makes the sun a giant shroud
makes you understand the phrase: "silver lining"
though it's dark as far as sight
dark can't terminate the light
somewhere on the other side the sun is shining..."
