rust metal face

day 218

another discard - side of the road, maybe? i don't remember. there were a couple of them - the other one being in the shape of a cow... they make noise in the wind - they cast wonderful shadows!

shadows for future photos, perhaps...

noises to ward off the pests

brainerd bats wine

day 217

they talk of the many famous folk who attended school here - but on this day i felt like i was the special one - she wanted to see where i spent my ninth grade.

the festival was a celebration of wine and beer and stinky old cigars... a fundraiser to help the building that the chimney in this shot belongs to.

but when dusk came we discovered who the chimney really belonged to - the bats.

if you click on the picture you can see some of the several dozens of bats circling around this mighty spire of former spew - unnoticed by many indulging below

road not taken

day 216

i used to wonder - sometimes into the late night... why i turned my back on my education to be a teacher.

it was a good, close guess - as to who i am or even was.... but it was the wrong answer - and i knew it.

even then.

today. after visiting a friend in kenosha wisconsin.... i passed my training grounds. it seems even more barren, now.

but i know, now, that my decision not to teach high school was the correct one.

and i know - that only i can know that.

in the ground

day 214

today's post is literally a hole in the ground. I spent a good part of the day digging out a rotten fence post in order to replace it with a fresh new solid one. I was surprised that the fence-putter-inners sunk these posts into 2 1/2 feet of solid concrete!

I have three more to replace.

new pond friend

day 213

i knew he'd been there for awhile this summer.... the telltale kerplunk of his escape into the water when he would hear my approach.

then:     he knew. i wasn't out to harm him or his environment.

and:      he posed.

my new friend.
